About Hippo Hideaway
Hippo Hideaway is a perfect holiday destination for couples, friends or the whole family. Doze under a tree with a good book while the kids play on the jungle gym or swim in the pool, or enjoy the many activities the area has to offer. For the more adventurous, you can try whale watching, deep sea fishing, a midnight turtle tour or 4×4 adventuring. If you prefer something more relaxed, see hippos and crocodiles up close on an estuary cruise, suntan or snorkel at any of the glorious beaches, go exploring in the nearby game reserve by car or on horseback, or gallop down the pristine beaches on a seashore horse safari.
Hippo Hideaway is so well positioned that, despite it being self-catering accommodation, there are so many restaurants and shops within a 5 minute walk from their front door, you don’t need to bring any food with you!
Enjoy a delectable breakfast at Thyme Square (open 7 days a week), or try the Wimpy just a 5 minute walk in the other direction. (If you go to Thyme Square you MUST ask Carla for her world famous waffles and excellent coffee – they’ll make your morning!) If you’re in the mood for seafood you’ve come to the right place… John Dory’s still serves the best sushi in town and they’re one of the few places that has a generator, so you won’t go hungry when load shedding hits. Ask for Llewellyn – tell him the Hippo Hideaway sent you and he’ll look after you. Reef and Dune also have a generator and their peri-peri chicken is just what the doctor ordered! There’s also a Kauai, an Ocean Basket and Alfredo’s if Italian cuisine is more your style.
If you’d prefer to cook for yourself, the Spar supermarket is across the street from Hippo Hideaway, and Liquor City is next door to that! But there’s even more – so wander along McKenzie Street to see all the other eateries on offer!
